Small Oracle technology tip
July 11, 2009
As lots of our readers know, Green Value Report Web system is based completely on Oracle technology stack, with two base components – Oracle XE Express Edition database and Oracle APEX Application Express.
Since day one we have noticed lots of small relatevily annoying things about Oracle XE (which is Oracle 10.2.0.1 version) – but they all dimmed comparatively to the price of software :-)
There is one thing, however, which may be seriously in your way if you use Oracle XE for production system. We are talking about spinning d000 oracle dispatcher process. Generically it will be named xe_d000_XE and may consume up to 99% of system CPU. The output of “top” command will show this little piece of troubled code sitting on cpu for days.
If you run Standard Oracle edition (and above), it is easly fixed by applying latest Oracle patchset, 10.2.0.4 as of today.
But with Oracle XE you are on your own … almost.
Please drop us a line if you are having too much fun with this problem – we will give you some hints how to work it around. Of course, it will be not full fix – but hopefully in a couple of month, after next Oracle Open World, Oracle Database Express 11 will be released.
Sincerely,
Green Value Report team
Hi,
We are having 100% CPU usage issue with the dispatcher xe_d000_XE. Can you please provide us hints how to rid off it?
Thanks in advance.
